The Ski Club Young Leader Award

Keen to spend more time in the mountains next season?

Of course you are.

If you are a sociable 18-25-year-old who is an advanced skier or snowboarder, we want to hear from you.

We have an amazing opportunity for a snowsports enthusiast to become a Ski Club Leader next season. The candidate will go on a 12-day course in December where they will expand their leadership and piste knowledge with mountain training, then spend two weeks in the snow leading groups around the mountain.

Ok you have my attention, but what is a Ski Club Leader?

Leaders are volunteers who lead groups of Ski Club members in 18 resorts across Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Andorra, USA and Canada. They will typically be stationed in a resort for 2 weeks during the season, where they will run a programme of social skiing and snowboarding which includes on and off-piste days. Leaders also host a social hour each evening and provide daily snow updates to Ski Club HQ which are published on the website.

The training programme is run by experienced mountain guides, instructors and Ski Club staff during the first two weeks in December in a major alpine resort. The course includes:

Leadership skills to equip you with the knowledge to lead with groups of all standards.
Technique training to enhance your performance on and off piste.
Navigation to familiarise you with the resort you’ll lead in, so that you know it inside out.
Avalanche safety to help you understand transceivers and avalanche safety procedures.
Snowcraft for understanding and recognising the various snow structures.
Ski standard training to familiarise you with the rating system that The Ski Club uses. 101.jpg

If you love being social on the slopes and would like to put your leadership skills to the test, this application is for you! To apply for the Young Leaders Award, you need to be an advanced or expert skier or snowboarder (on and off piste) between the ages of 18 and 25 and show that you have enthusiasm and commitment to help the snow sports community.

The deadline for applications is 30 September 2018. Interviews will take place shortly afterwards.
